Venlo heet tijdens carnaval, ofwel Vastelaovend in Limburg, ook wel 't Jocus Riék of 't stedje van lol en plezeer. Vastelaovend in Venlo wordt georganiseerd door Jocus, de carnavalsvereniging. De centrale kleuren in Venlo zijn rood-geel-blauw (de Venlose vlag) en het Venlose dialect speelt een belangrijke rol.
