I think the character without shading looks better because your direction is clear and it just works well as a simple line drawing with flat color. The shaded version feels like you are starting to get a sense how you want it to look rendered out but you don't quite have a grasp on the forms & volume of the character to properly wrap the.

of course I think you should stick with one style consistency over a single piece though. also the dotted dithering can work if that's the texture you want. but noisy dithering looks a lot more pleasant, and imo can make shading look even smoother in some ways than straight gradient. 53.
