Kiholo Bay Scenic Overlook Big Island Hawaii

Camping at Kiholo is allowed on weekends only (Friday-night through Sunday-night). Camping sites may be reserved up to 30 days in advance. Campsites are located along an unimproved gravel access road in a shaded kiawe (mesquite) grove fronting an 'ili'ili (pebble) beach. This is a remote area with no facilities and NO WATER .

Kīholo Bay is located in the ahupua`a (historic land division) of Pu`u Wa`awa`a in the North Kona District on the Big Island of Hawaii. the land surrounding the bay is flanked to the South by a lava flow from Mount Hualalai ca. 1801 and another flow from Mauna Loa in 1859.

In 1859, a lava flow from the Mauna Loa volcano, reached Kiholo Bay and devastated the southern portion of the ancient fishpond.
