Peyto Lake is a brilliant blue, glacier-fed lake north of Lake Louise on the Icefields Parkway. Peyto Lake Viewpoint and Overlook are beautiful in all seasons! If you've never visited Peyto Lake, you're in for a surprise. A short walk from the parking lot takes you to a elevated viewpoint of a dazzling turquoise lake you can't see from the road.

Peyto Lake is one of the most famous lakes in Banff National Park. It's a turquoise blue glacier-fed lake 40 km north of Lake Louise and a popular stop on the famous Icefields Parkway. The brilliant display of blue is fed by the Peyto Glacier high above the lake and part of the Wapta Icefield.

There are two factors when looking for accommodation in the Banff National Park area close to Peyto Lake: weather and budget. Weather permitting, we recommend camping in one of the well equipped campgrounds along the route. Silverhorn Creek and Mosquito Creek campgrounds are the closest to Peyto Lake.

Peyto Lake is located on Alberta's most scenic highway - the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93). This is the highway that connects Banff/Lake Louise to Jasper. It is just over a 2 hour drive from Jasper, an hour drive from Banff, and 35 minutes from Lake Louise. Is Peyto Lake Open yet? Yes, Peyto Lake is now open!

Num-Ti-Jah Lodge - Rustic lodge located on Bow Lake, about a 10 minute drive south of Peyto Lake. Mosquito Creek Campground - Nice campground along the Icefield Parkway, 20km south of Peyto Lake. No reservations. Waterfowl Lakes Campground - Large campground 25km north of the lake with reservable sites.

This past year, Peyto froze around November 16 (some years it freezes earlier, but other years it freezes completely at the end of November), and we were fortunate enough to be able to skate on it before it was covered in snow.

Peyto Lake is located on the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) between Lake Louise and Jasper. Currently, the only way to get there is by driving, unless you book a tour that stops there. You can't see the lake from the highway, but the turn off is well marked with signs and there's a parking lot.
