We have done a few recent trips to visit the Prairie dog central railway. Our favorite train there is the steam train (locomotive number 3) which is a 4-4-0.

The Prairie Dog Central Railway uses one of the oldest running steam locomotives in Canada. Their coaches are all around 100 years old, and the Inkster Junction station in northwest Winnipeg is over 100 years old. In the early 1970s, the railway used an abandoned CNR track in southwest Winnipeg that is now the Harte Trail.

The Prairie Dog Central Railway takes you on a journey from the "big city" to rural Manitoba. Departing the Inkster Junction Station, the route follows a former Canadian National Railways line that goes by the Hitch 'n Post, on to Grosse Isle and to Warren, where the track terminates.
