Drain the macaroni, then return to the skillet. Add the cheese sauce and 2 tablespoons pasta water, and stir until the macaroni is evenly coated. Add 1 can chili and stir to combine. If the sauce is too thick, add more pasta water a little at a time as needed. Sprinkle with 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Bake until heated through, about 5 minutes.

Add onion, beef and garlic to a pan over medium heat. Cook until no pink remains. Drain any fat. Add remaining ingredients except cheese. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium low and cover. Step 7. Brown the topping and serve. In order to get a nice golden brown color on the crumb topping, just move all of the coals from underneath the oven to the lid. Place 10-15 coals on top of the Dutch oven. Cook for about 10 minutes, until the pasta is tender and most (but not all) of the liquid has been absorbed.

Instructions. Pour the pasta into a 12-inch skillet. Pour 3 cups of cold water over the pasta. Make sure the water covers the pasta, add more if needed. Turn the burner to high, then set your timer for 10 minutes. Cook on high, stirring occasionally, until almost all of the liquid has evaporated. Add chili and bring to a simmer.
