Iwaaki Hitoshi debuted in 1985 with oneshot Gomi no Umi (Sea of Garbage). Then he continued to write and draw oneshots which were later collected in anthology Hone no Oto (Sound of Bones). At the end of 1985 Iwaaki started his first regular serialization in Weekly Morning magazine with Fuuko no Iru Mise (Fuuko in the Cafe).
