Large wooden canteen brought home by a New York Civil War veteran NC

We have put a wire Bail at one end of the pan to make it easier for the campaigner to insert a stick into it for lifting on and off the fire. Made of Stainless Steel. Price: ยฃ 15.00.

Description. Our canteen half is made of the typical smooth-side canteen minus the spout. Canteen halves were commonly used as plates, frying pans, or shallow bowls by troops on both sides during the war. Damaged or surplus canteens were heated to melt the solder in order to separate the two halves. Our halves are 100% Made in the U.S.A.

Civil War Style Canteen. This is my personal canteen that matches my half-seat saddle. It has basket weave tooling with the letter P in the center. It is Civil War style with a cork top; however, rather than using a tin canteen like the originals, this shell is stainless steel without lead solder. This makes for a long life even with hard use.

As far as the canteen half . . . . I've read where re-enactors attach the cooking canteen half to the actual canteen. Sounds like a great idea. The sutlers I've spoken to have told me that the canteen half is usually the lightest cooking thing they sell short of a $2-3 tin pie plate.
