WICO makes too many adjustments that overstep it's bounds, makes it a compatibility nightmare. But I'm completely sold on diversity, one of the best mods I've ever tried! Cathedral Human mer and Beastfolk is probably the most lore friendly overhaul that covers the most NPCs. {Bijin} is the most used one.

I ended up using Windsong Skyrim Character Overhaul and haven't looked back. WSCO doesn't make the same drastic changes but I find that it takes each race and manages to bring them in line with some semblance of reality. It attempts to create something realistic and true to ES lore, without erasing the art style and creating a dissonance.

It's pretty good, IMO. If you don't want to fiddle around to much with body and face mods then it's a good choice. You may see the black face bug a lot with mods that add NPC's, like Populated Skyrim though, I believe there is a detailed guide to fixing it with SSEEdit on Nexus. 8. SuddenlyTired.

Check out EasyNPC, a tool that can fix incompatibility between appearance overhauls and other plugins that affect NPCs. If you want a vanilla plus overhaul, I suggest taking a look at Cathedral Player NPC Overhaul. I'd also check out Vanilla NPCs Ruhmastered as a baseline. After cleaning this mod, open it in xEdit: Expand the mod and expand Non-Player Character (Actor) Right-click on FormID 0009F83A dunBluePalaceMareMaiden. Choose [Remove] Choose yes to any warnings to remove the record. Close xEdit saving the plugin.
