Limited aftermarket gear available. Too powerful for really "green" beginners. Chain drive requires more maintenance than some owners like.

The Vulcan 650 is a parallel twin, and revs much higher than the vstar. It will be a responsive and fast bike, being based on the Ninja engine. I have the Versys 650with the same engine, and I love riding that bike! It leaves me smiling after riding it. The Vstar is a classic v twin cruiser, but on the lower end of power.

So, I believe a Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 would be the best and most reliable, with a curb weight just under 500lbs and many say the 650 engine is still quite powerful, so much so that first and second gear can be slightly twitchy.. Several shrouded bike like the Kawasaki 650, the Yamaha FZ6R or the CBR650F are all good options. Id also throw in.
